Static front page that also shows summaries of recent blog posts

Hi. I currently have my blog posts going straight to my front page, but what I would like to do is have a static front page with some introductory text and then below though display the summaries of my last four blog posts.

I know I will have to create a static page for the front page and a blank page for the blog to display in in its entirety, but the question I have is how to I get the blog to feed summaries into the static front page. Surely there is a plugin for that or something of the ilk.

Help would be greatly appreciated…
