• I want a static home page (actually, what I want is for my ‘home’ post to always sort on the top and to have some control of occasional ‘Featured’ posts which I can push near the top) but I want the rest of the blog to show and feed as usual.

I’ve got the static front page plugin working. It says I should create a ‘blog’ category as default and then LINK to it from home page.

I don’t know how to do the LINK part.

    Can somebody straighten me out?

    Thanks.

P.S. if anybody knows of a plugin which does what I really want, please let me know. I’m working a kludge here.

  • If you do not have permalinks installed, simply link to (wordpress directory)/?cat=1 for your main catergory. If you DO have permalinks installed, than you are having the smae problem as I am, in that permalinks do not like to lead to somethign that is not an indiviual page or post. Anyone?

I may be missing something here, but if you just link to https://www.yoursite.com/blog or https://www.yoursite.com/categories/blog it seems to do what I’m/you’re after… Of course once you’ve set up your blog category. I think that you can then set in your sidebar for it to exclude the category “blog” so that it doesn’t show up in your category list. I’ll test this and post whether this is true.

This is going to depend on a couple of things like 1) is wordpress installed in the “root” of the domain such as https://www.somthing.com/ or in a sub directory like https://www.something.com/wp

Also, it’s worth noting that there is a “semi-static” home page plugin available, although I’m not using that at the moment. I do however have worpress installed in the root of a number of sites and am using it as the “home” page, with some containing, the most recent posts, others just static content.

There are a number of ways to acomplish this, I just need to know a little more about how you’re set up before letting you know how I would or have gone about it.

you should be using the adhesive plugin.
