• Using 2.2.1

I’ve tried finding help with this with little luck so I’m resorting to bugging you guys.

I want a static page to use as a home page for my site… slcritics.com. I created a page (and have tried naming it all kinds of names to test, currently “Home”) and a page to use for posts (named “Reviews”). I went to Options-Reading and tried to select “Home” for the front page and “Reviews” for the blog posts. It returns:

    Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access /wp-admin/options.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    Apache/1.3.37 Server at https://www.slcritics.com Port 80

WordPress is installed in my root directory, so the URL goes straight to the blog.

Incidentally, I also get this error when messing with the URL options under the General Options.

I have no idea what to do. Can someone give me some steps to fix this? I’m not a coder, programmer, technically-inclined (whatever you want to call it) type of person, so some simple steps would be appreciated.

PLEASE HELP!!! At this rate, I’ll be bald in 3 hours from pulling my hair out!

  • Have you tried searching for teh error that you’ve received:

Yes, but they all seem to be displayed for errors such as not being able to log in or when posting entries. I’ve tried this with WP installed in its own directory and in the root. This is my 3rd or 4th install.

I see topics about the options.php and most of them are not answered.

Regarding .htaccess and mod_security, I don’t know what settings to use or even how to change this. My .htaccess file is totally empty, which is why I’m so confused.

Okay, my fiance had me add this line to the .htaccess file:

    SecFilterEngine off

Is this bad? Should the security be on? It fixed the problem, at least.
