Are you trying to create something like this: https://smartslider3.com/behind-pixel-project-symu-slider/ ? It can be achieved with the Slider background image feature which is available in the pro version only.

If you would have the Pro version, you should switch to Expert mode: https://smartslider3.helpscoutdocs.com/article/406-secondary-navigation-bar
then head to the Slider settings > General tab and you’ll find the Slider background under the Simple slider type settings: https://smartslider3.helpscoutdocs.com/article/72-simple-type#settings
