I have posted before about trying to solve an issue with the shipping & sales tax. It comes and goes and is intermittent.

Its probably been about 6 months since I switch from variable products to add-on products. Maybe a coincidence but started having issues with some orders being charged sales tax even though they are out of state.

Every time I login to WP it tells me the woocommerce DB needs to be updated. I do keep all plugins and woo updated since this started.

I had 2 shipping classes for the same thing but cleaned that up and seemed to work for a while.

Now suddenly the past few days, many people are having my home state AZ showing on their orders, its replacing the state that they typed in and showing AZ on the state and charging sales tax. Its random, not on all orders. Its the same issue I had before, random orders were being charged sales tax even though they were out state but now is actually showing the company’s home state on random orders & charging sales tax.

I have been using flatsome(updated) and its been about 5 years or more since I set this site up and made some customizations. Maybe I should just do a clean install with a new theme like hello and re-import all my products, not sure what else to try?

  • Hi @virtualgeorge,

Interesting issue! This may be related to how the taxes are set up – if you have it set for automated taxes in the WC > Settings > Tax area, then it would be charging taxes based on Arizona tax law. WC Services pulls from the TaxJar API, and according to it Arizona is an Origin Based Sales Tax State. In this case, it would charge tax based on your location vs. the customers’. More on this is in the link above.

That being said, it should *not* show the state of AZ on the orders itself, it should stick with what they entered in the Cart/Checkout area. That can be a conflict either in the theme or the plugins. If you are comfortable with it, could you please share a copy of your site’s System Status? You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”.? Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

This would give us an idea of what exactly is on the site, and potentially help in doing some tests on our side to see if we can replicate. I look forward to hearing back from you!

    Hi @virtualgeorge

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.

    Thanks,
