I’ve had a WordPress site for many years now. The latest iteration is about 4 years old, so it is time to rework the site with a new theme. My situation is a little different, so I’m trying to think through the steps and appreciate any help I can get. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

    • backed and downloaded the database
    • used WordPress export to export all posts and pages
    • downloaded all assets- images,documents,etc.
    • all the wordpress files were in a separate sub-directory
    • those files were deleted
    • fresh WordPress install in new directory with the same name and path as the old one.

Here’s what I’m thinking of doing:

    1. import old database to new one using PHPmyAdmin
    2. import posts and pages using WordPress import plugin
    3. upload assets via FTP
    4. test

The only thing is, I know from past experience that I can’t simply upload the images and other assets with the same folder structure as before. Or is there a way?

If there are flaws in my plan or an easier way to do it, I’d love to hear about it.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Forgot to add that I will probably need to do a Search and Replace in the testing part to fix any broken links.
