• I’m currently using version 2.6(something) and an obsolete theme. The theme is a WordPress Theme but it does some things that are not “Universal”. For this reason I can’t simply change themes and make a few edits.

I’ve decided to wipe and clean. I want to get rid of my current version and install version 2.7, then I want to start over with a Magazine Theme.

Is there a way to preserve the two plus years of articles that I have or will I have to sacrifice them too?

  • Upgrading won’t destroy your entries. If your database needs to be upgraded it’ll take care of it for you. From there, find a new theme and activate it. ??

Don’t delete your existing blog; instead, upgrade it from 2.6.x to version 2.7. Upgrading will preserve your existing content.

Read the detailed instructions for upgrading to version 2.7 before attempting the upgrade. Pay close attention to and follow each step carefully.

Make sure you back up ALL of your files (via FTP) and your database (via phpMyAdmin) to your local computer before doing the upgrade.

Once you have successfully upgraded, you can then install a new theme and begin tweaking things to get it looking and working the way you want it to.
