• Hello

Okay, so I have my server all set up, downloaded and re configured the coniguration file with all the right stuff and uploaded this through Filezilla to the server okay.

When I go to the domain/wp-admin/install.php I see a page hosted by godaddy (the place I got my domain name) with sponsored listings etc. I have no idea where I actually go to start assembling the website – I must have taken a wrong turn because this all seems far from easy.

I figured once I had my website control panel set up with all the database name, username, password and hostname that I would be done, but I can’t seem to get to any screen which resembles any tutorials I have seen online so far.

An utter newbie at this, and not sure where I have gone wrong.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Hello again

From what I can tell, the issue I am having is trying to run the install script. Instead of arriving at some kind of log in screen with wordpress, I am instead just seeing a godaddy hosted page with loads of sponsored links which are related in theme to the title of the domain name.

Have I just gotten the URL incorrect? I have tried various combinations of /mysite.com/wordpress/wp-config.php.

    Many thanks for your time.

did you configure your domains DNS entry?

I’m afraid I don’t understand what that means or how to check.

Your DNS entry will place in special servers the IP address of your server that hosts your site. such as for me my site mikeoconnor.net points to 174.133.40.66, when 174.133.40.66 gets a request for mikeoconnor.net it will pull up my web site. When you buy a domain, it is usally parked to point to the site of who you bought it from. They should have mailed you directions on how to change your DNS entry, so from there, you will take your hosting sites IP address that your hosting site gave you when you bought your web space, and go to the DNS management system, and point your domain to that IP address, at this point you have entered the new info, it can take up to 24 hours for this information to propagate out to rest of the internet. After you have entered that info and after the information of your domains new IP address propagates out, then you can point your web browser to your domain.

    Hi

Many thanks for this. I think I am starting to get a handle on this.

When I do to the GoDaddy domain management page, I am asked to put in new nameserver info to point it to my site. However, I don’t know how to get this information – do I get this from my Domain people (GoDaddy) or from my host people (Laughing Squid).
