• Hi all –

Our current website is hosted on ipower, is currently written in code and html, but none of us who work here now know how to use it well. We want to install WordPress to our site, we’ve bought a theme, but before we install and upload, I wanted to make sure it wouldn’t wipe out our old website.

Anyone have experience with this? Is there something we can do to design our site before installing it? Or is that not necessary

(I know there is a lot of negativity regarding ipower on this board, but this is what our organization is using for web and e-mail and switching hosts is not really an option .. we are just looking for feedback to make an easy transition. Thanks!)

  • Install it in a subfolder first. You can move it to the root folder when you’re done setting everything up the way you want.

Another option is to create a subdomain, such as “test.yourdomain.com” or “new.yourdomain.com”. Install WordPress in that subdomain, get a feel for it, and then when you are comfortable, move it over to the original domain.
