I have an issue that I cannot get resolved with my website (just started in the last 10 days).
I am very green at this whole process. Everytime I make a request for help on the forums and read the responses; I feel like a Kindergartner taking an advanced calculus exam on his second day of class. I was led to believe WordPress was easy to use and that you did not have to be coding expert to use it.
My current site keeps getting directed to a different site when using a mobile device.

    Current site: https://milehimobileconcrete.com

the mobile site gets sent to: https://mobile.milehimobileconcrete.com

which shows searchlabel.com at the bottom of a white screen.

At any rate, I am using Hostway as my hosting service and I want to start over and build a whole new site to hopefully get rid of the problem.
I had hired someone to set the existing site up a year ago.
So how do I do this myself now?

  • Hello tzadi,

Often, mobile redirects are handled by a .htaccess rule, or plugin. I recommend reviewing your plugins first, by looking for anything that mentions “mobile” or “redirect.”

You can troubleshoot your .htaccess file by renaming it (for example rename it to .htaccess.old), then reload your site or visit it in another browser. You can always name the file back after testing.

If you are going to uninstall the website, you can delete the files, and database associated with it. I you used an installer such as Softaculous, you can uninstall there.

    Cheers,
    John-Paul

Thank you for the information John-Paul.
Where do I find this htaccess file, is it in WordPress?
If so where do I find it? I see where to edit pages, appearance, plugins, etc (basically everything listed in the left column on the dashboard page.
Or is it on the Hosting server?

Yes, the .htaccess file will be located on your hosting account. It should be in same folder location where you installed WordPress.

Depending on your host, this is often the /public_html folder.

    Hey there John Paul:
I found 4 files with the .htaccess extension.
If I renamed them with the .old one at a time – nothing really changes the site function. If I had any combination of two out of the four I got this message: “Not Found The requested URL /contact-mile-hi-mobile-concrete/ was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”

I am sure this is something simple to fix, I guess I just do not have the training needed to find the problem.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Hey Tzadi,

Not sure if you fixed this, but I just checked out your site on my Galaxy S5 and it seems to be working just fine. No blank page.

Do you still have an issue?

    Hey frasermarlow
    It is driving me crazy>
It is now working on an i-phone & Android.
I spent the afternoon making all the changes that were suggested. It did nothing to remedy the problem. I just finished putting everything back to the way it was before editing anything and now it works.
I am happy it is working>
I just would like to know why?

I will have the guys in the US try it tomorrow and verify it is still working.

OK, well as of 12:32 EST it looks fine on Chrome on Android/Galaxy S5. I can confirm that much. I can also switch form the mobile site to the desktop version, and that renders fine too (although the mobile site looks much nicer!) ??
