Standard WordPress Registration for in Multisite

Hi,

I’ve created a simple plugin (from WP Codex snippets and tutorials) that adds some fields to the WordPress registration form. I thought the fields would also be available in the Multisite registration form when activated on a site, but unfortunately not.

(1) Is there a way to add fields to the Multisite registration form or use the standard WordPress form? (This is what my form looks like on a regular WP install here)

(2) Can’t people register as site members for a blog without the appearance of joining a network?

I do need to get extra signup information as it speeds up a process. I’ve custom writer, photographer and cartoonist roles and I don’t want to have to contact the registrant to find out their name and what role they want to play, hence I wish to allow selection of roles and posting of a brief bio statement, so it’s merely a matter of approving a registration after.
