    Good afternoon!
I live in TX and I’m having a difficult time with the standard tax rate on my page. I hadn’t experienced any issues before today so I’m not sure what happened. I know that Woo said there were tax issues for CA and TX, but that they were resolved. I’m wondering if this has anything to do with that.

Anyway, my issue is this: Living in TX, our sales tax is 8.25%. I put this information in the subtab of the Tax tab, and when I do a test order as someone living in the state of TX, the sales tax still reads as $0.00. I have The Country Code as US, State Code as TX, Rate as 8.2500, and Shipping check marked. Under tax options, I have “Enable Automated Taxes” selected, “No, I will enter prices exclusive of tax” selected, Calculate tax based on “Customer Shipping Address” selected (although I am selling only digital products at this time; physical products in about a year), Shipping tax class “Standard” selected, Display tax totals “As a single total”.

I have the WooCommerce Services plugin. I honestly have no idea what happened because this worked fine a few weeks ago.

    Hi @alrunemara,

This is the support forum for the WooCommerce Services plugin. Based on your description, it doesn’t sound like you are using the functionality of our plugin.

What WooCommerce Services does is calculate the corresponding tax rates for you, so that you don’t have to enter the rates yourself. However, you’ve mentioned that you chose to disable automated taxes – effectively disabling the functionality provided by WooCommerce Services.

If you want to have WooCommerce Services calculate these taxes for you, you’ll want to enable the automated taxes option.

Calculate tax based on “Customer Shipping Address” selected (although I am selling only digital products at this time; physical products in about a year)

If you do want to keep entering your own tax rates, and not use WooCommerce Services, it sounds like this might be the problem here. Orders with digital products only don’t have a shipping address – since virtual products aren’t shipped. So, you might want to try switching that setting to Customer Billing Address, to see if taxes are then calculated correctly.

I do have the “Enable automated taxes” selected as stated above. It does not give me the option of selecting the customer billing address as it is grayed out. What you are seeing is that I have “No, I will enter prices exclusive of tax”. I’m guessing this means I can put in a price of $10, and WooCommerce Services should calculate the tax based on that price. To clarify: I do want everything automated. I have everything selected to make it do that, but it’s not working and everything still shows $0.00 at the cart and checkout. I’ve even so much as tried to use another plugin (Avalara), but I’m getting the same result. I’d like to stick with WCServices if I’m able. This worked just fine 2-3 weeks ago. I’m not sure what happened since. Here are screenshots of what everything looks like currently.

    Hi @alrunemara,

I do have the “Enable automated taxes” selected

    Thanks for confirming that!

Other than that, please note that for TX orders to be charged tax, your shop base address needs to be also in Texas. Finally, note that for WooCommerce Services to work, the Jetpack plugin needs to be activated and connected.

If you verify that this is all correctly in place, but taxes are still not calculated, please submit a new support request via the WooCommerce.com contact form:

On that form, make sure to select WooCommerce Services under the “I need help with:” menu.

The support team will be able to take a closer look over there.

    Good morning Fernando!
I currently have a ticket open (please reference #2100056), and they have suggested I use Avatax. However, I have the same exact issue with them and their support is unable to figure out why. Is there anything else that can be done, or is there a way a support person to actually look in my dashboard (w/temp pw) to find out if there’s an underlying issue that isn’t present to me that could be obvious to someone else?

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, and it looks like the issue was solved over the ticket you opened at WooCommerce.com.

I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
