The GDE is a terrific plugin. Thank you so much for creating and supporting it.

However, I have to deactivate the GDE in order to do ‘regular’ ‘Insert Media’ into a page otherwise media is not inserted. This is okay, but will the next version have that same difficulty? I am on a pre-release version 2.6 of the GDE that you so graciously provided to me.

I also have a regular WP question that I have not be able to locate the answer to in the Forum.

I can do an ‘insert media’ successfully into a page for an image but not a document under regular WP (after deactivating the GDE).
Images display correctly on a page no problem. However if the inserted media is a document: DOCX or PDF etc. the LINK to the media displays NOT the CONTENT of the document. There must be a simple answer here but I have not found it. Please advise if you would be so kind.

As you have found, inserting images into a post is something that is ‘natural’ for a web page – images are embedded all over the web.

Documents such as PDFs are not so simple. They naturally fall as links in the web, to download or open in a new window. The point is that there is no standard way to embed these in pages, and that is exactly why the GDE plugin is needed! That is one way to embed documents in a way that means they can be viewed without leaving the page.

If things worked as you describe in your second question then there wouldn’t really be any need for plugins such as GDE to take over and embed documents in that way.

I hope this makes sense! So to answer your first question I guess there will not be a way to do ‘regular’ insert media for documents… from your second question, it seems that you don’t want ‘regular’ insert media in any case since that really just means entering a link to the file.

Sorry if I’ve misunderstood something here, but hopefully what I’ve laid out above explains why in fact your two questions contradict each other once you see how the various embed/link options work.

    Thanks,

    Dan
