Is SSL required for the plugin?

I read somewhere that in order for Paypal to process a refund, it requires SSL.

I am currently using your great plugin on cheap shared hosting and it is working fine without SSL, for simulated transactions. However I have not tested all transaction types. Maybe some require SSL?

Also my hosting plan includes “shared” SSL. If SSL is needed, is “shared” SSL acceptable?

    Could you please clarify? Thanks.

If this is on your site somewhere, please let me know, my excuses for not seeing it.

While an SSL would be recommended, it is not required for any IPN transactions at all. IPN is something that happens after a transaction has occurred. It does not process any payment (unless you happen to have some sort of payment processing built into your IPN solution).

Processing refunds via PayPal’s API does not require an SSL. The only thing that would is if you process actual credit card payments using DoDirectPayment or PayFlow APIs. Then you would need an SSL to encrypt that sensitive card data that gets entered into the form on your site.

Again, though, IPN is for post-transaction processing and does not require an SSL at all.

Hi, is there any info on your site about using SSL with this plugin?

No, you shouldn’t need to make any adjustments. The plugin works the same whether you’re running on https:// or https:// as long as your SSL certificate is installed and working correctly.
