SSL on domain

  • HI have developed a website hosted with SiteGround. Usually i use Lets Encrypt for SSL but in this case the domain already has a SSL attached to it. The domain is hosted by another host in South Africa called webafrica. In the case where that has a SSL attached already, what do i need to configure on my install so that the certificate will work?

  • If you’ve already have a SSL certificate, you will need a Certificate file and Private key. Then you can go to your hosting settings to fill out those information. This can be vary due to your hosting you’re using.

    Moved to Fixing WordPress, this is not an Everything else WordPress topic.

    You will need to rekey the certificate for wherever your hosting the site. Some hosts will even install the new cert once you’ve done that and some will take care of it all for you. This is a question you need to ask your hosting company.

    Ivan Atanasov from SiteGround here. I decided to post an update in this thread because I noticed that your domain is still running without SSL.

    There are two options in this case:

    a. Install a Let’s Encrypt SSL for easygrasse.co.za from cPanel -> Let’s Encrypt. Scroll down and select easygrasse.co.za from the drop-down menu in the “Install new Let’s Encrypt Certificate” field

    This will install a free Let’s Encrypt SSL on your domain.

    b. If you prefer to use your old certificate for easygrasse.co.za then you need to get the certificate and private key from your SSL issuer or the old hosting company you had the certificate installed on.

    Once you have the certificate and private key, follow the steps below:
    1. Login in your cPanel
    2. Go to SSL/TLS Manager
    3. Click on Manage SSL sites under “Install and Manage SSL for your site (HTTPS)”
    4. Scroll down to “Install an SSL Website” and choose your domain from the drop-down menu
    5. Place the certificate in the Certificate (CRT) field and the private key in the Private Key (KEY) field
    6. Install the certificate

    You may want to get the CABUNDLE and use it in this process as well.

    Hi Ivan,

    So that was my first approach by doing the Let’s Encrypt.This is what i do for all my sites hosted by Siteground. I was working with one of your team members re this, Diana T, and she discovered that there is an Alpha SSL installed on the domain. Still waiting to hear back from the support team where the domain is held.
