Hi there, if the main site has an SSL (https://) then does the domain I am trying to use for a single page need the same via the Registrar?

It seems to cause a 500 error on the browser

    Thanks

    hy,
unfortunately we did not test it out with https so far. this is already on our list, so we will have a look at it as soon as we find time – please notice that this plugin is only a hobby next to our main business.

if you find out any additional information or help for other users, please post it here ??

    thanks for your understanding

    hy again,

i just made a quick test with a let’s encrypt certificate in a test environment. the certificate is only assigned to the main domain, the other domains for mapping run on http.
i could not see any problem here (WP 4.7.1)

please try to find out if any other plugins may cause a conflict by temporary disabling them (and maybe also switch to standard theme for testing) if this is possible for you.

good luck and please report back,
    matt

Do I point the forwarding to the root of the main site using the https prefix then?

    hy,
if you talk of forwarding, i am not sure if you are really looking for the functionality of this plugin.

what you can do with this and how:
    – have multiple domains/subdomains point to your wordpress installation root. this is configured right, if no matter which domain you enter, you will see the home page of your install with the main domain configured in wordpress settings.
    – choose urls, which will be replaced by one of the other domains. these can be entered in the new page “Multidomain” under tools.

for example, you have the url https://www.maindomain.com/mybusiness. for seo-purposes you want your second domain mybusiness.com to be used for this url – no matter if it displays a page, a post or whatever you can display with wordpress. so you go to the mappings-options and enter one rule. on the left you enter https://mybusiness.com, and on the right you enter /mybusiness. if you have a certificate for the second domain too (which i would recommend for having a consistent user experience), then you enter https://mybusiness.com on the left.

after that, all links that were previously pointing to maindomain.com/mybusiness will point to mybusiness.com, and this url will also stay in the adress bar.

so it is no redirection or forwarding, but a rewrite mechanism.

    Hi Matt,

Thank you for getting back to me. I have done exactly this as I did read the documentation however I am confused as to what to do with the second domain (https://mybusiness.com) at the domain’s registrar (123REG). Do I point this to mt site’s main domain root via the perminent forwarding or do I change the DNS?

Let me know as the 2nd domain I was to map to the post seems to just point to the homepage of the main domain at the moment

    Regards

    hy will,

when you talk of forwarding in your registrars settings this sounds like it is not the right configuration. the A-record for the domain in the DNS settings has to be the same for both domains (also do not forget the www-subdomain here), and then both domains must be configured to point to the same directory (your wordpress root) in the hosting.

looks like they have a good article on this: https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/Web-Hosting/Domain-Mapping/how-do-i-map-a-domain-name-to-my-hosting-2576/
-> just map your second domain to the main domain root, then the plugin should be able to do it’s work ??

    Hi Matt,

We have followed all these instructions and still not successfull. Please can you provide a screenshot of what you set up via the registrar for me. The main thing I know is correct is the WP admin set up I have done seen here https://goo.gl/poicIg

    (@matthiaswagner)

    hy will,

i do not have access to an admin-panel from 123reg, therefore i can not make you a screenshot of these settings. to answer the question from your screenshot: mapping, like it is explained in my previous answer.
could you post the domains you are working on? unfortunately your secondary domain that should be used for mapping is not complete visible in the screenshot ??

Domain to be forwarded to the URL is

    webdesignwetherby.co.uk
The URL that I have mapped it to in the plugin is https://www.biggundigital.co.uk/web-design/web-design-agency-in-wetherby

As you can see, its not right ??

Domain to be forwarded to the URL is

    webdesignwetherby.co.uk
The URL that I have mapped it to in the plugin is https://www.biggundigital.co.uk/web-design/web-design-agency-in-wetherby

It looks fine on HTTP. However, I do not see SSL in any of the URLs. Have you disabled SSL?

    hy pothi,
    thanks for responding.

@will, you still have some kind of forwarding active here, which can bee seen that the page is displayed in an iframe.

this is what i see when looking up your dns settings:
    https://www.webdesignwetherby.co.uk. CNAME 86400 fwd3.hosts.co.uk.
    webdesignwetherby.co.uk. A 86400 85.233.160.22
–> please configure the same A-Record for both versions of this domain, it’s the easiest way. should be the same A-Record as your main domain (85.233.160.151)

    biggundigital.co.uk. A 86400 85.233.160.151
    biggundigital.co.uk. A 86400 85.233.160.149
    https://www.biggundigital.co.uk. A 86400 85.233.160.151
–> you should only have one A-record assigned per domain, so better remove 85.233.160.149 (at your own risk – if it is here for a special purpose, keep it)

this is what is also linked as additional ressource (https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/Domains/Domain-Configuration/how-do-i-point-my-domain-name-to-an-ip-address-1200/) id the help article from 123reg i already posted to you.

afterwards you can add the additional domain to your hosting like explained here (https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answers/Web-Hosting/Domain-Mapping/how-do-i-map-a-domain-name-to-my-hosting-2576/).

afterwards you can set up the plugin.

one last line: it does not look like you carefully read the help articles i provide to you. you call yourself a webdesign agency (!?). this is basic stuff for an agency – i am not willing to provide you further help on these things. if you have troubles with the plugin after setting up everything else correct, feel free to open a new thread. this will be closed.

    Hi Pothi, Matt.

Thanks for your help here. I may have caused confusion as I tried the plugin on a new site (Big Gun Digital) that is not the same as the one we need to install the SSL on.

Big Gun also use Namesco as their hosting, not 123REG that is why you may have been on a different page to me and I am totally in the wrong for not explaining that.

Both WebdesignWetherby and BigGunDigital are with Namesco.

At the moment WebDesighWetherby points to the correct page but the domain remains in the URL bar when navigating the rest of the site. Do you know if this is what is supposed to be happening?

-> this is because webdesignwetherby.co.uk displays your site biggundigital.co.uk in a frameset. as long as you call yourself webdesign agency and are not willing or able to read the html output your pages and forwardings generate, i am really not willing to spend my time on that.

Notices issue with SSL when site is strictly SSL (no traffic allowed on HTTP – automatic redirest to HTTPS).

I need to add mapping for https:// and https:// for same page to allow this to work on Strict SSL site.

Adding just https:// causing redirect loop.

    hy idarek,

thank you for reporting. in our ssl test-environment i can not see this behaviour. we have just one mapping with https:// defined.

we have an apache server with following lines in the htaccess file to force https traffic:

    RewriteCond %{HTTPS} !=on
    RewriteRule ^ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

would you like to give this a try? or do you have an other server type?

    matt
