• Hi there,

trying to update Twenty Thirteen, I get the following error-message:

SSL: certificate subject name ‘*.www.remarpro.com’ does not match target host name ‘www.remarpro.com’

It seems my hostingcompany does not offer SSL (they say it is pricy). Is there another way to update Twenty Thirteen without it?

    Hi webenfoto,

I solved it by downloading the full Twenty Thirteen theme from this location, extracting it (through winzip or something similar) and then copying the twentythirteen folder from my desktop with ftp into my theme-folder.

Just copy paste it over your existing folder. It overwrites the old theme, but since I work with a child-theme, that’s no problem.

    Hi dekraan,

    thank you for the update.
Indeed via FTP no problems… but I make WordPress websites for a living so this way of updating time consuming…

My host did look into this and it seems that an *.www.remarpro.com certificate is not valid for www.remarpro.com.
It seems to be a SSl problem.

Hi webenfoto, ah, I am just fiddling with my own site, so it is manageable to do it the manual way. Maybe switching hosts is the only way then…

    Hi dekraan,

the strange thing is that the update of WordPress goes via http and for these themes via https.
I’m not going to switch hosts, because I read elsewhere that some others hosts have the same problem and I’m really sattisfied with my host.
Is seems to be a WordPress problem, hopefully there’s a solution in the next update.

(and I would have to switch a lot of clients of mine to another host….)

It seems that “www.remarpro.com” just serves the wrong certificate. It’s an issue that WordPress should solve server side and tweaking themes (or WordPress Core with additional code to ignore validity of certificates is just wrong (and dangerous, because certificates are there for a reason).

By the way, I also experience this issue when trying to update to WordPress 3.7.1 on some sites. 3.7 seems randomly to choose https and http for downloading updates, where https always fails.
