SSL Certificate and SiteLock are not compatible

  • A heads-up for those using these security measures.

    Bluehost offered me a free SSL Certificate and SiteLock, both of which I accepted.

    When my SSL certificate was updated a few days ago, my site broke, and they can’t fix it.

    Support said they will be notifying the admin that SSL certificate and Sitelock are not compatible.

    In the meantime, I want to get the word out to other users – don’t use these together!

    Done! You are totally 100% correct. All is now good with SiteLock and I am very pleased. I hope that it is clear now days with the host company that there is no problem.

    Does SiteLock Basic, via HostGator, have conflicts with SSL certificates? Just need to know if SiteLock Basic is useless if my site has a SSL. Basic question. Thanks!

    Many of the features of SiteLock Fix and Prevent, like the SMART scan, will work with both a domain that has an SSL installed and one that does not. You would want to consider an upgrade to the Professional Level of SiteLock or higher if you have an SSL and would like to enable the TrueShield and TrueSpeed features.     @gatoralanw really hit the nail on the head there. There’s only one product in HostGator’s SiteLock offering that does not support SSL, and that is the SiteLock TrueShield Basic WAF/CDN that is included at no additional charge with the ‘Find’ and ‘Fix’ Scan plans offered. In these cases you would want to upgrade the TrueShield tier to at least Professional for SSL support as @gatoralanw mentioned.

    As a final note, since in this single thread we’ve referenced two different hosting companies’ SiteLock offerings, I want to avoid any confusion from future readers. SiteLock has a number of different partners, each of which may have unique product and feature agreements with us, so troubleshooting steps may be different for other partner plans.     I think the time has come for this to become a sitelock support topic and move to the sitelock plugin’s subforum (if related to that plugin) or to sitelock’s own forums (if related to the service).
