    New to Sportspress! Hi!

I think this is a great plugin. I have a few questions I hope someone can help.

In running a squash league, we have the following situation:

Each night (1x a week) there is an event a different venue. Each night there are multiple matches between players, across different skill levels. For example:

On first night there is: Player 1 (Men’s A division) vs. Player 2 (men’s A division), but also the same type of setup for other divisions (B, C, D, and women’s divisions)

Is this possible in SportsPress? Even if it is marked as player vs. player, an ‘event’ such as a night all these matches are happening, does not allow for multiple different squash matches to occur within this event.

    I hope this makes sense!

    Hi there!

    Thanks for reaching out!

So, a SportsPress event is a single game. So if you have 10 games per day, you need 10 events.

You can create competitions / seasons if you want to list them all together in a single place. You can have multiple competitions for an event, so your first event could be “Men’s A divion” AND “Games night Dec 5th”, for example.

And then you can use league tables or player lists to rank your players for each division.

    Thanks!

    Thanks @rochesterj

This makes sense however… I am not seeing where I distinguish (in Sportspress) an event vs. a competition. I can create an event which is a single match (Player A vs. Player B) and it seems all I can really tie this to is a ‘League’ or ‘Season’.

If that is the case, would need to create ‘leagues’ for each and every division? Men’s A League, Men’s B League, etc.

    Hi there!

    Thanks for your reply.

Leagues and competitions are the same thing, it just depends on the language pack you are using.

So yes, you use different leagues for each division and for each match night even if you want to have a list of all games within that day, for example.

You can have multiple leagues in an event, so you can have one regarding the division, and one for the competition itself (Match Night A).

This allows you to build an event list for all games of the division a (all match nights), or one for all events in a specific match night (all divisions).

    Thanks!

Hrmmm…You are onto something here, just not sure I follow.

Now I have separate ‘leagues’ which represent Men’s A division, Men’s B, etc.

When I create an event, I can select a league/division. However, I still need to schedule only TWO players for a single match.

However, I am ultimately looking for a summary that follows something like:

    Match Night 1 (Dec 8th)
    – Men’s A
    – Player 1 vs. Player 2
    – Player 3 vs. player 4
    – Player 5 vs. Player 6
    – Men’s B
    – Player 1 vs. Player 2
    – Player 3 vs. player 4
    – Player 5 vs. Player 6

So on and so forth… This way, if someone went to the website they could click on “match night 1 dec 8th” and see a summary/list of all matches to take place on that night.

    Hi there!

    Thanks for your reply.

I think the game itself is correct already, isn’t it?

You set it as player vs player, then add player 1 vs player 2, for example.

Then in the competitions for that event you’ll add Men’s A AND Match night 1. The match night is a competition as well.

Now in your page you’ll use a few shortcodes, like this:

    title: Match night 1:
    Men's A
    [event_list {competitions for both Match 1 AND Men's A} ]

    Men's B
    [event_list {competitions for both Match 1 AND Men's B} ]

    Men's C
    [event_list {competitions for both Match 1 AND Men's C} ]

    And so on.

    Thanks!

Ok … match day…. I am getting closer

However, when I set my Men’s B events to match day 1, and I use the insert shortcode–I am getting 0 results:

    Hi there!

    Thanks for your reply.

Oh, sorry I misspoke. In your case, it’s better if you use Match Night 1, 2, 3… as seasons, not leagues/matchdays.

You can even add them as sub-seasons of the corresponding year, in case you need the yearly seasons for stats/ full year lists.

This allows you to restrict events (my previous suggestion was going to load events from men’s A OR Match night 1, we need to load events that only have both, not just one or the other).

So please, create a season for each of your match nights and you’ll be able to use them in your events/shortcodes.

Here’s an example. The season setup:
    https://prnt.sc/22bsz17

This is how it looks like when it is a sub-season:
    https://prnt.sc/22bt0zb

Then your event details should be like this:
    https://prnt.sc/22bt57v

Don’t add the full 2021/2022 season, for example, otherwise it won’t work.

Then you can load that subseason in your shortcodes.

If you want an events list for the entire season, for example, you can simply create an event list and load the parent season (so all match nights are loaded in it).

Please try this method and let me know how it works for you.

    Thanks!

Thanks so much Roch, you are very kind and patient.

I have setup my seasons this way – however, when I add the sports press shortcode for an event list title “Men’s B” – its still empty: https://lnp.jbl.mybluehost.me/fixtures-results/ (bottom of page)

I am not sure what I am missing here!

I think I figured it out, I had to manually remove the ‘team’ part of the text from the shortcode, now the players appear: https://lnp.jbl.mybluehost.me/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screen-Shot-2021-12-09-at-1.45.19-AM.png
