• Just noticed that current two versions of Square (1.6.8 & 1.6.9) have broken parts of my site with header and footer loosing all formatting.

I have had to revert to 1.6.7 to restore site formatting.

I do use some CSS overrides for the formatting but don’t know enough about the latest changes to the theme to understand what might be happening.

Can you investigate and tell me if any major changes have occurred in the theme in the last two iterations?

Also has the latest update to WordPress (I have just up-dated to WP 5.4.1) had an effect on the theme?

    Hi,

The change log in the mentioned versions are
    = 1.6.9 – Apr 28 2020 =
    * Client logo slider issue fixed

    = 1.6.8 – Apr 26 2020 =
    * Owl carousel js update to latest version and slider javascript changed from bxslider to owl carousel

It must be that your website is loading the cached version of the old theme that is why the slider and client logo section must be appearing with glitch.

Please do update to the latest version and let us know if the problem still exists. We will help you to fix the issue.

    Thanks

    Thank you for your advice.
I have repeated the update to the latest version 1.7.1 and found the same error – corruption in the formatting of header and footer. Yes, I did refresh the page in two browsers (Firefox & SeaMonkey).

I don’t have time to investigate it at the moment but I wonder if there is a problem with my CSS overrides, conflicting with the theme under the latest version of WordPress? (Yes, I am up-to-date on WP.)

I have had to revert to the usable version 1.6.7 for now.

I have loaded images of the problem from one page:-

    The page (working): https://freehomes.sterlingsecure.co.uk/stockport-powerhouse/town-centre-west/

    Corrupted header image: https://freehomes.sterlingsecure.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/20200525-PageTop.jpg

    Corrupted footer image: https://freehomes.sterlingsecure.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/20200525-PageFoot.jpg

You can see how the formatting for the page has been lost through the up-date. There has been no other design change to the site. The formatting of my site IS based on an assortment of CSS overrides to create the design. I have not investigated whether a particular override is influencing the corruption (very busy with work) as the site has worked perfectly until recently. If need be I will investigate if you have no other suggestion.

While I have numerous plugins on the site and they are all up-to-date they do not seem to be having any effect on the earlier version of the theme so I do not suspect theme for this issue.

Up-date. As I have now had time to investigate this issue I carried out the following tests:-

Created a test site withe the latest version of the theme and a child them for testing.
    Ported over the CSS overrides.

    No problems with the formatting.

I then checked all my plugins to see if there were any odd ones that might be effecting the header & footer and breaking their formatting.

No problems with any of the plugins.

I then carried out a special test – up-dating the theme and creating a new child off the new version, then porting all CSS and other settings over to the new child.

    Problem solved.

This is NOT an ideal solution because it did not tell me what was going wrong and whether it could be repeated in the future.

The up-date also threw up a new problem, but that is the subject of another thread.

    I’ll be back.

Hey @worldmaker I have encountered the same issues as yourself with the latest updates to the Square theme. Have you had any further issues since your fix or come up with a solution? I am keen to update as I am now quite a few versions behind.

    Cheers

@innesz please let us know in detail about your issue so that we can help you.

Please make sure the check your website after deleting all the cache because sometimes the cache can also cause some issues.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. I encountered the exact same issues (header and footer) as @worldmaker when I updated my theme to 1.6.8 and have refrained from updating since then and ma apprehensive about updating again until this has been resolved.

Do you know if this banner issue still exists for the current theme update?

    @innesz @hashthemes

My apologies for the delay due to work and illness in the last few weeks.

I did update my site several weeks ago and then refreshed my browser and this cleared the issue, so I have to assume, for me, it was a caching problem in my browser.

I have just now updated from version 1.7.5 to 1.7.7 and tested it and there is no issue with the headers & footers, so far, fingers crossed.

You can see it working here: https://freehomes.sterlingsecure.co.uk/

@innesz I suggest testing it, if you haven’t done so already with a rollback plugin to protect your installation if the latest version isn’t working for you. Good luck.

    ??

@worldmaker @hashthemes thanks very much for the advice, I will test this now and get back to you and hopefully works fine. Will install a roll back plugin just incase of any further issues. If the issue persists I will make sure to do a recache and contact you for further information on how to fix this.

    Thanks again

@hashthemes Hi there, I have now updated to the latest version and there seems to be an issue with my child theme, I have had this installed for a while for Google Analytics tracking but the new setting are different and my site is now been totally stripped of any CSS or page styling. Can someone get back to me and advise on how to fix the child theme settings?

    Hi,

If you are using child theme, then you will need to copy the code from the parent theme again and add your codes again.

On update, there might be changes in the header file and the current header file is not compatible with the header file in your child theme which can be causing this issue.

    Thank you.

Hi there, thanks for getting back to me. I am tempted to not use a child theme any longer so hopefully this will resolve the issue. If I deactivate the child theme and activate square theme will this sort out the compatibility for the headers etc?
