Spun theme – do I host on WP or elsewhere?

  • My general question is in the topic title. The question comes from these items/thoughts listed below, and keep in mind I have not bought my domain name or hosting yet:

    1. I want to use the Spun theme by Caroline Moore, and would prefer to host the website on WordPress. However, I’ve learned the hard way that if I buy my domain name, and hosting from WordPress, my footer will annoyingly say “Blog at WordPress.com. | Customized Fontfolio Theme”.

    I don’t want to end up paying for hosting & my domain name and it end up saying the same thing when I use this theme. How do I avoid that?

    I’m being told by a friend that I can buy my domain name AND host elsewhere, such as through godaddy.com, and still use this theme – is that true, and if so, can I still change the footer if I do so?
