Sports Website

I am wondering if anyone has ever built a WordPress site for a sports team/league. I prefer to use WordPress over anything else but have not dug to deep into how I would handle statistics.

If there is anyone out there that has done a WordPress sports site with players/stats that works quite smoothly, or know of how they would do it then give me a shout!
