• I’m working on a huge WPML website with 6 different languages (English is main .com) and I’d like to convert it into a multi-site with sub-directory structure instead of the .com/?language= structure.

I haven’t worked with WMPL before, and the documentation is a little lacking. There is no feature to export the content of just one language, and the website bonks when trying to export the entire content XML file.

I’ve tried exporting the database directly, but writing a query to export the language tables is a nightmare.

We’ve decided to go with multi-site to make it easier for our staff in other countries to add or change content for their language without having to go through the admin of the main site.

Is there an easier way to do this?

  • Hello,

Is there an easier way to do this?

Easier way to do what specifically? To export your translation out of WPML and import into multisite sites? Or easier way for staff to edit country content for their language in WPML (without using multisite)?

Well, WPML being a commercial plugin, WordPress volunteer here don’t have access to it, and might not cannot help you. Your best bet would be to contact the developer of the plugin.

But note that you can use Multisite *with* WPML… though I don’t know if existing translations created in the single WordPress site can be imported into the individual multisite language sites or not. Again, this is something that plugin’s developer is in a better position to help you with.
