• Hello all,

I put myself into quite the corner… I have a site hosted on Siteground,in a staging status, which is functioning as three sites; each “site” is only a subdirectory. I realize that having subdomains will be a much better solution, and now would like to break apart the site and move the corresponding pages etc to each subdomain. I’ve been trying every possible way to accomplish this with no luck.

I’ve tried All in One Migrator plugin, with no luck because of size limits. The same goes for Duplicator plugin.

I made a duplicate of the entire site, thinking I could just install it on each subdomain and just delete the pages not needed, but could not install from the .wpress file.

I tried exporting and importing, with some success but of course all plugins and theme settings etc have ot be manually added baack in so it’s close to starting from scratch which is what I’m trying to avoid.

Any suggestions for how I can do this relatively easy without having size issues?

    Thank you,
    CG

OK, so here’s what I’d do.

    1. Make clones of the site (to get the plugin and theme stuff handled) then
    2. Delete all of the content then
    3. use WPALLEXPORT to export the content of the original site to a CSV file then
    4. Using my favorite spreadsheet program, break up the content into three spreadsheets, and then finally
    5. Use WPALLIMPORT to import one spreadsheet into each of the sites.

    Hello Steve,

So, sounds similar to the xml export/import, but this will keep the plugin/theme stuff…. I also made clones of the site hoping that would be part of a solution….

What I’m missing in understanding is when you say “delete all of the content”

    Thank you!

The plugin/theme stuff is handled in step one, when you clone the sites. Removing the content involves going to PAGES and POSTS and deleting them, then deleting from the media library. There are many plugins available to clone sites or you can do it manually.
