Split Full Name to First & Last Name Merge in MailChimp

    Hi! Thanks for a terrific plugin.

    Is it possible to have just one line like this in the plugin form:
    <p>
    <label for=”mc4wp_f%N%_name”>Name:</label>
    <input type=”text” name=”name” value=”” />
    <p>

    And when it passes through to MailChimp it splits into First and Last Name if the person fills in the form like “Joe Smith” with a space? Does it have to do with the Merge tags in the MailChimp List Settings?

    Added this in version 0.8.3! Great suggestion.

    PS. It only guesses the first- and last name when NAME is given, but FNAME and LNAME are not.

    Could you tell me if the ability to split full name is available for the comments subscribe feature or when your plugin is added to a Contact Form 7?

    My understanding is that this feature is only for forms made by your plugin. Is that correct?

    Hi Plippers,

    As of a few version ago, the plugin does this for ALL subscribe methods. So if using Contact Form 7 with my plugin’s checkbox and no LNAME or FNAME is found but a NAME is, the plugin will split it.

    Hope that makes sense.

    The next update allows more merge fields to be sent when using CF7, by the way.

    I installed the latest CF7 and plugin.
    My form format is
    [text* mc4wp_text-516 placeholder "Full Name*"]

    PS. It only guesses the first- and last name when NAME is given, but FNAME and LNAME are not. <– This doesn’t seem to work because when I checked my list the FNAME and LNAME is blank.
    Where did I go wrong?

    Hi Vegano,

    Try changing your CF7 code to this

    [text* mc4wp-text-516 placeholder "Full Name*"]

    (dash instead of underscore)

    Also, I find it hard to believe the name of your “Full Name” list field in MailChimp is text-516. It’s probably just NAME. In that case, use this.

    [text* mc4wp-NAME placeholder "Full Name*"]
