Splash page showing for logged in admin

Even though I’ve got all the user roles checked for “The user roles enabled to see the frontend. Check a role to enable it to show the website with maintenance mode active.”
everybody, no matter whether I’m signed in or not, just see’s the splash page. Is this because I have wordpress installed in a separate directory, so that though the base url is https://www.utilawhalesharkresearch.com/ it’s actually installed in https://www.utilawhalesharkresearch.com/wp/
?I’ve used the plugin successfully before, and this is a fresh install, so i’m really confused as to what is going on.
