Spin-off of Pages as Circles thread

I read the earlier thread from rbbrx about populating the front page circles with pages instead of posts and the code they shared worked perfectly.

The new problem I am running into is that I would also like to have one of those pages serve as a blog area where posts will show up. But, of course, when I set up a page as the “blog” in Settings it reads the pages code tweak that I inserted and just sends the site in a loop. I’m still learning here, but any suggestions on a solution? Thanks!
