    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Could you go to Users > Your Profile in your dashboard, and check your proofreader options there?

According to the options you have chosen, your posts and pages will be proofread whenever you hit the Publish or the Update button.

If it still doesn’t help, could you let me know your site URL?

Thanks Jeremy! I changed my proofreader options and then edited a page to test it. I then started having issues with it not saving my work. I logged out, closed Firefox and logged back in and still had the issue. I was only able to save changes by deactivating JetPack.

I just need a spellchecker and don’t want all the JetPack bells and whistles (especially if it’s going to cause issues like this). Is there a way to just get the spell checker?
    Thanks!!

The Jetpack proofreader should work just fine; it might conflict with another plugin on your site though.

Could you try to deactivate all other plugins, one at a time, and see if one of them conflicts with Jetpack?

An alternative would be to use the After the Deadline Chrome extension:

Thanks so much Jeremy! I’m not willing to lose any of my other plug-ins (I only have a few and they are key). I’ll look at the Chrome extension.

Are there any other stand-alone spell checker plug-ins for WordPress? I’ve researched and haven’t found any but that just seems weird…

Sorry for the confusion; I am not suggesting that you deactivate any of these plugins for good. Deactivating them for a few minutes and testing the proofreader, however, could allow us to understand the issue, and maybe release a fix for Jetpack or for the conflicting plugin.

Try searching for plugins by tag:

I had the same issue. It was the CKEditor plug-in that was messing things up. I deactivated it and Jetpack worked.
