Spell check doesn’t work in 2.1

Hi, everyone.

I’ve upgraded to 2.1 from 2.0.5. In both IE7 and Firefox 2, Alt-N (I’m on WinXP) doesn’t start spell check. Also, if I deliberately misspell as word (as in “mispell”), then click the “ABC” incon, the page greys, the message “spell checking” appears, then a dialog appears saying no misspellings found.

In short, the spell checker appears to be installed, but catches no spelling errors.

Does anyone have any idea where I might start looking for something that went wrong during upgrade?

To upgrade my blogs, I deleted EVERYTHING but the wp-content subdirectory. For that sub-directory, I manually uploaded the updated classic and default themes and the new Akismet plugin.
