• I did check through this forum on previous threads but did not find the answer so excuse me if it was there.
I spent at least one hour trying to get the spell check to work last night. I have added the plug-in in the plug-ins folder and activated it thru WordPress. I have the check spelling button to but nothing happens, it acts like a dummied link {#} would act. My server is not in safe mode and I treid to check for aspell and correct paths but nothing seemed to be the cause

This was troublesome and probably is a simple fix but this should be part of the WordPress cp built in spellcheck and should not be a plug-in IMO

  • Well, considering the number of languages and even the differences between UK / AU / NZ / CA English and US English, spell checkers can be more complex than you imagine. Perhaps the mechanics of the spellchecker could be in the admin panel, and folks would just have to create language files. Don’t know, I’m not a coder, but I’m always in favour of keeping the core code as lean as possible.

I had a lot of trouble with this plugin as well. What I resorted to was using SpellBound (a firefox extension) which simply gives me the option of spell checking any textarea / input box. I found it as an adequate solution and it’s global (not just defined to WordPress).

Ok I got it, Thanks it will be a great edition as I post in forums like this and sometimes there are typos so it will make me look smarter

You should make sure that the javascript is not being blocked by any AV software or yor browser. Just a thought.

It’s sometimes helpful to post problem reports on the author’s website so he could perhaps help out ?? (I don’t often read this forum). I’d certainly check to make certain that the Javascript isn’t being blocked as cianuro mentioned.

i just installed spellbound and haven’t yet had a chance to compare it to this plugin. on first glance though i like that the personal dictionary is viewable/editable and spellbound doesn’t appear to question legitimate words or recognized names made possessive (ex: journalists’; Bush’s)

the spellcheck plugin didn’t work for me (pop up window had buttons but no spelling results) until i chmod’ed the entire plugin directory (777).

Version 1.1 of my plugin has a viewable/editable personal dictionary.

Interesting, the 1.1 version should have a check for that in the configuration page. Did it not give an indication that the temporary directory was unwriteable?

fantastic! i didn’t realize there were new releases; i have 0.9. perhaps that explains the lack of permissions message.

in any case, it’s a wonderful plugin and i thank you for it:>)

Most welcome! Glad you’ve found it useful.

Note that as of 1.1 the plugin is now compatible with the One-Click installation interface of the WordPress Plugin Manager. As such, it’s a lot easier to keep up to date with any new version. Jsut FYI.
