• WordPress Multisite VS Single Site

I have installed many separate blogs at single domain and single hosting.

    1 at example.com and 1 at example.com/site1 1 at example.com/site2 and so on…

There are approx 8-10 separate WordPress sites at example.com

All the sites including main site and sites in sub folders will have huge data/posts/images and huge traffic in the future.

All the sites will have same theme and same plugin except 1 or 2

Currently I have to purchase many copies of same theme and same plugins because the theme and plugin vendors allow single copy at single WP install, so I have to pay huge amount for it.

To resolve this I can do one thing, I can merge all the separate WP installs in a WP multisite, but I am afraid of speed issue and site performance.

    My Question

Can anyone give me Speed and Performance Comparison between WordPress Multi site and Single Sites.

  • There are no speed or performance differences if you use WP Multisite vs WP single site.

The main advantage for multisite is WP management. Consider the case of WP multisite with 500 sites; or 500 WP single sites. It would be a lot harder to manage 500 single sites. Think of upgrading WP core or plugins on 500 sites! With multisite I upgrade once and all sites are upgraded.
