Specific WordPress Forum Integration

Hello,

I’ve got some pretty specific needs for a wordpress forum integration and I’m wondering if anyone knows of anything like this is or willing to write something like this (I’m a ruby on rails dev and have very limited PHP experience).

Basically, my site (www.mmahq.com) has gotten to the point where I get enough traffic and close to 50+ comments per post. The thing is most of the comments are really “forum type” discussion threads as opposed to actually comments about the post.

I’m trying to find some kind of forum or wordpress plugin that will integrate directly into my current wordpress site. For instance, when I make a new post, perhaps it will create a new thread on the forum for people to have discussion. I also don’t want my readers to completely abandon using my comments, because the whole chicken and the egg thing. The more comments you see, the more likely you are to leave one. Anways, maybe when someone makes a post in the forum thread that is tied into an actual post, that forum post will also appear as a comment on the WP blog with a link back to the forum thread?? Something like that?

Any ideas or am I going to have to have someone develop it for me? I’ve looked the XDForum plugin and bbpress and things but I don’t really see the tight integration that I’m looking for?

if nothing exists and someone would be willing to develop the plugin (either for free or as a contract job) I’d also be interested in hearing from you.

I’d think that there would be no ‘tighter’ WordPress integration than with bbPress.

Yeah, I looked at bbpress and the plugin. it does allow you to share the same user table for logins but really its not “integrated” in the sense I am looking for. You have a blog and you also have a forum – they just happen to share the same user accounts.

I’m looking for something that will basically allow me to make a new post on the blog, that will automatically create a new thread on the forum with the same title and when people leave comments in either the blog or forum for that post, the comments will appear both in the post comments and the forum thread for that post.

There is a plugin for bbpress which makes wordpress posts also create a topic on the forum
