specific validation for Italian VAT numbers

  • I was wondering if it’s possible to implement specific validation for Italian VAT numbers (In Italy VAT numbers have a fixed length of 11 digits).

    Is there any way to customize the plugin to achieve this functionality? If yes, I would greatly appreciate some guidance on how to do it or if there’s an existing setting that I might have missed.

    Yes, I have difficulties because the VAT number check is carried out through VIES. However, some Italian VAT numbers do not have VIES validation, but they are acceptable for domestic sales. Therefore, for this reason, I have deactivated the validation for the Italian VAT number, but I was wondering if there is a possibility to enable validation for a specific number of characters.

    Hello @laurav89,

    VAT numbers format & length vary by country, and the plugin handles them exactly as they are registered in the VIES system, so for Italian VAT numbers, whatever numbers are provided by customers, they will be validated against the official database (VIES), regardless of number of characters.

    I’m not quite sure if this solves the issue since it’s still a bit unclear to me, have you tried validating a valid IT VAT number but didn’t work? Can you share the logs (enable debug under advanced, try validating a number, then check logs).
