• I hope someone can help me here. I read through the templates intro but what’s described there is not really what I’m looking for. I want to assign different themes to different pages. Archives is supposed to have a different theme than the front page which again is supposed to have a different theme than categories/posts. I tried achieving what my customer wants by just using different headers and menu placing but alas, he wants three completely different layouts. I have never done this before as I never had anyone requesting such drastic changes. I do get why my customer wants to do this but I’m not sure how to achieve it. Is there anyway to have multiple themes active and assign each to a specific section? Maybe this could be done with a plugin (I did search the page but wasn’t really successful). Any input is greatly appreciated.

  • No, you can’t have more than one theme active at a time in the same install of WP. But as you read about, you can have highly customized templates for different pages — you would need to do all the customizations however.

Did you read theme development — it has lots of good information along the lines of what you would likely need to know.

I did read the theme development before. I guess I should have been a bit more specific in my original post. What I meant with different themes is that different pages are supposed to call different CSS files to customize font, colors, background, etc.. He doesn’t want to change position or what is displayed, I would be able to do that with templates.
