• Hi all, our shop is using a flat rate for all our products of $10. We added a bulky item which is more to post. We added a Shipping Class ‘Bulky’, I then opened our Flat Rate shipping and selected 30 for the Bulky shipping.

What it has done now though is add both shipping costs on, so if a user orders this bulky item it charges them $40? How can I make it charge them only $30 if they order this product? If they ordered another product and this product then yes I would expect it to be $10 for standard plus the $30 for this bulky item.

    Hi @toms2018

If you want the Bulky item to ship for $30, you would set the rate for that class to be $20 as it is added to the $10 flat rate.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks! But if someone ordered a shirt and a bulky item their total shipping would be $30, it actually should be $40 as we want them charged $10 for the shirt and $30 for the bulky item on the same transaction, any ideas?

    Hi @toms2018

You can use the Calculation type Per Class to charge shipping for each shipping class, option under Shipping Class Cost.

Hi Amanda, can you elaborate more on this? What do I need to change from what I currently have setup?

    Hi @toms2018

Looking over the requirements and testing on my own site, here are the settings that you would need to charge $10 for the t-shirt and then have the bulky class charge $30, for a total of $40

In my cart the the hoodie is the bulky item

Thanks, Amanda! That’s actually what I have… sorry, I should have been clearer and perhaps I need to achieve this another way. Scenarios as follows:

    1) T-Shirt (only) in Cart, postage should = $10
    2) Bulky Item (only) in Cart, postage should = $30
    3) T-Shirt + Bulky Item, postage should = $40

Scenario 1 works and always has. Scenario 3 works because it adds the $10 for the shirt + $30 for the Bulky item.

Scenario 2 is the issue if a user just adds a Bulky item it still charges them $40… do I need to add a calculation on the Bulky item to remove the original $10?
