Special characters is no longer available in the Gutenberg editor. Special characters is checked in EditorsKit settings, but is not available in the editor (at least anywhere I can find).

I am using EditorsKit 1.34.0 with WordPress 6.0.2, Twenty-Twenty-Two theme 1.2 with Twentig.

Special characters was available earlier in the More Tools dropdown along with Superscript and Subscript. Those are still there, but Special Characters is missing now.

I’ve seen your replies to other threads saying that typography has been deprecated, but I assume Special characters is not considered typography since it is still in the plugin settings and is still listed in the depository page as a feature.

    Hey @bookman53,

Thanks for reporting this issue. We were not able to replicate this issue, Can you please verify if the “Special Characters” isn’t disabled from the Editorskit settings. You can access the editorskit settings from Admin Dashboard -> Settings -> Editorskit.

Yes, “Special Characters” is checked (enabled) in the Editorskit settings.

I just went back and double-checked. I discovered something that I hadn’t before.

Special characters is available while writing or editing posts. But it is not available in standard paragraph blocks in the Template editor.

I have tried paragraph blocks by themselves. I have tried typing special characters inside paragraph blocks in standard rows and inside Kadence block rows.

I cannot get special characters to work anywhere inside the template editor.

The particular situation where I tried to use special characters was in a block inside a custom homepage layout. I was able to insert the TM character by using the HTML entity name for it.

    Hey @bookman53,

Thanks for the clarification, We currently don’t support site editing in EditorsKit. This means you will only be able to use Editorskit functionality on a page/post editor.

Thanks. Perhaps you will be able to support site editing in a future update.
