Special characters. Do I always have to encode them?

  • DO I ALWAYS have to encode special characters?

    if I want to use ampersand…wordpress adds & in the html view without issue.

    however when in visual editor and I add a Pound symbol ￡ wordpress wont encode it…the ￡ symbol works fine if I encode it in HTML view though.

    this is inconvenient. Because I want my users to be able to copy and past …or write articles without having to deal with any HTML.
