• Hello,
all the special accented letters (european languages) are displaying as weird symbols after upgrading from 2.7.1 to 2.8.

Changing the settings of DB_CHARSET to latin1 or utf8 yelded no result.

Strangely, other blogs I have display OK after the upgrade so I assume the release 2.8 doesn’t handle data coming from past versions as 2.7 did.

Hope someone finds a solution – the conversion procedure for text fields of the database I found here on www.remarpro.com seems very complicated and tricky

  • the same here.
I had no problems with 2.7.1 and after upgrade came special letters as symbols. In the database (myphpadmin)I find out that all Kollations are set now to latin1_swedish_ci. If change these to utf-8 and in config.php Kollation to correct utf-8, there are no difference.

    An update:
It is likely that in my case the problem was coming from prior upgrades.

After rolling back to 2.7.1 (DB and files) the strange characters are still there.

Excuse me for the complaint, perhaps misleading.

Thank you swingz! I was having the same problem with special characters showing up after I moved my blog to a new server. I changed the DB_CHARSET to latin1 and it fixed it. ??
