my csv import has the character φ in the product title

On import woocommerce changes this character to a ?

If i start a product manually and use the advanced WYSIWYG editor I can actually see that this character φ is allowed and part of the options for special characters

Is there some kind of technique I can use to keep this φ symbol

    Hi there,

These characters are fine to import if your CSV uses valid UTF-8 encoding. If you are using Excel, it is not the ideal to use as it is notoriously bad at exporting these characters in the correct format.

To import products containing these characters, you can try using using:

Online spreadsheet editor Google Drive / Docs
    Free spreadsheet app in OpenOffice
    Free Calc app in LibreOffice

These programs have better character encoding support when exporting a CSV.

    Hi Amanda,

many thanks for your reply, i really need to do my core sheet in excel as its quite complicated and requires macros and advance formulas to clean my list for woocommerce import

So if I copy and paste into my google sheets program then save as CSV should that work?

    Hi there,

Yes you could copy the data into a different CSV tool and then ensure that it is encoded in UTF-8 when saving and you should be all set.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
