• From the moment I installed this plugin, I started to receive about 2-3 emails every day from all kind of “SEO experts”. It is extremely upsetting and annoying because those emails don’t even have an unsubscribe link and they are coming from different addresses each and every time. I have no idea how to make them stop.
So I had to uninstall the plugin and I don’t want to ever hear about Contact Form 7 again. Sorry, but you shouldn’t allow this to happen.

  • Im not in any way affiliated with the plugin, but those spammy emails could have just been bots filling out your contact form. Theres no way installing a plugin would give your email address to any specific person. You could have just used the captcha field or other methods to prevent the spam emails.

So please, before you poorly rate a free, well developed plugin, reach out for help or do a little research.

And how do you know I didn’t use captcha?

Form spam is an unfortunate reality that needs to be dealt with on most website forms. There are a host of ways you can do that effectively. Blaming CF7 for your problems just demonstrates your lack of understanding of this issue.

    Oh wow!
Gomez became a member few minutes after I posted the review and only to tell me that is not affiliated with the plugin and you are blaming me that I blame CF7 for my problems! Calm down guys, I think Im entitled to post a review and say exactly what kind of experience I had.
I tried several contact forms before and never had this kind of problems.

And by the way buzztone, there are quite few 1 star ratings for this plugin and you are bullying all those reviewers.

@emanda1964 – you are definitely entitled to post your opinion, just as I and others are allowed to post an alternative view for others that read your review.

    Use askimet
On our website it perfectly blocked 125000 loads of spam over the last year. Yes really that much. If you want to have a contact form – bots will fill it in. Do use captcha as well. I love CF7 and the fact you got spam is very annoying. I got about 20 per day until i used askimet then nothing ?? Its really not the plug in that did this.
    Hope that helps.

@emanda1964 Try to use WordPress Zero Spam plugin. Works fine without any captcha

I really do not think the spam you received has anything to do with the plugin itself. I′ve use it on dozens of websites and it works like a charm. Try the Akismet integration. It′s very easy to setup.

CF7 is a very popular plugin because it′s easy to use, flexible, well coded. I′d say you should give it another go ??

    Big thanks to Takayuki Miyoshi.

I just found this free plugin that you might try.

My site is brand new so I can’t provide feedback on the effectiveness of this plugin yet.

Thank you all for your reply. And let’s see…
I do (always did) use Akismet which works fenomenal, never had any spam whatsoever except for the time when I had the contact form 7.
Hartamon, yes I now use the Zero Spam plugin and I’m very happy with it. I had captcha before which was fine too but I didn’t like the way it looked. Zero Spam is great indeed.
The honeypot seems to be for contact form 7 which I am afraid to try again (although I would like to). It’s probably a really good plugin since so many people are happy with it but it just didn’t work for me.

“it’s probably a really good plugin”. 1 star.

    Sigh
