• I have two blogs – an active one: https://themuddykitchen.com/ and one in hibernation https://jennifersolow.com/

I’ve always gotten tons of spam emails for the old blog/site – I think because it’s so out of date, but I have recently been inundated with email asking me to verify my comments on my new blog, which are obviously spam. I THINK the spam/ham is being caught in time because when I go to “SPAM IT”, the comment seems to not be in my “good comment” folder in my dashboard.

Maybe there is a setting I’ve messed up where I’ve asked for Spam comments to be sent to me? I don’t think I can stop the spam but can I stop receiving emails about it? I get about 12-30 emails a day — confusing because some of the comments are good, so I have to look at each email.

    Any suggestions?

I’ve seen other topics about this but the answers are too confusing to me– I just need a very simple, step-by-step, newbie instruction for how I might stop this. Or at lest stop receiving the emails about it.

  • Hi Jennifer,

With each WordPress installation you should have the plugin Akismet installed to combat spam comments. You do need to set up the API key on your own. When you’ve done that, your spam issue should clear up.

I do have the Askimet plugin installed. (As an aside: I do see a “flash” before my dashboard comes up that says “Super Cache is disabled” — it disappears so quickly I’m not sure if that might have anything to do with it? I don’t think it does because Super Cache is an entirely different plugin.)

I DO seem to be catching and filtering the spam out and into a spam folder on my dashboard BUT I am receiving emails for every piece of this spam just as if it wasn’t spam. Asking me to “approve it” just as if it was an approved comment.

So catching the spam doesn’t seem to be the problem, to be clear, it’s all the emails coming to my inbox about the spam.
