Hello, my theme has PMP licenced into it and in the last couple of months I got many spam user registration, but I have tried to disable PMP and they still manage to create an account. I have no other forms to enter my site and a hidden admin login page.

I have now disabled “anyone can register”, but I guess it will prevent PMP to work. Could you explain if it’s PMP or something else?

    Hi @devsaredead,

Disabling the “anyone can register” checkbox via your Dashboard > Settings > General > should not prevent PMPro from working on your site. Members should still be able to register for membership on your site from your levels page.

If disabling that checkbox prevents further spam user registration on your site, then you may leave this disabled. To protect your PMPro checkout page, we have some guidelines you may follow here.

    Kind regards.

Unfortunately, the option is preventing to register, so I have to enable “anyone can register”. ??

    Hi @devsaredead,

I was not able to recreate this. I was able to register for a membership level successfully on my test site with that box (anyone can register) unchecked.

I recommend working through the guide I shared earlier to prevent further spam registrations on your site.

    Kind regards.

I reckon the problem is with the free plan and I think PMP assumes that is a normal WordPress user registration, so it bypasses it and disables registrations if “anyone can register” is unchecked. So, that setting can live for paid plans but not for free registrations (i.e. WordPress default)

this problem is really getting on my nerves. Don’t you have an alternative to captcha? You must investigate, there really is a hole in your plugin. I tested with a dfault theme and it spam registrations still get through.

Hi @devsaredead, if you are still experiencing this issue, this may be due to how PMPro now handles user creation.

Please see our guide on further ways you can follow to protect your site from Spam registrations: https://www.paidmembershipspro.com/users-created-at-checkout/

    Hope this helps.

the issue has disappeared on updating my SSL certificate, I cannot explain how.

Though, I have read your documentation and wish to disable account creation on checkout. How can I do that?

A WordPress account is required in order to assign membership levels to the user’s account – it’s not possible to use Paid Memberships Pro without a WordPress account for each member.

I hope this helps clear things up.
