I am quite new to blogging but was really encouraged by the many nice posts that I have been getting. They made me believe I was doing a great job. But then I noticed a pattern and realized theses post are probably not real. What kind of spam does not ask for anything and just says how good and how helpful you are? This is so sick!

All the email addresses are like this [email protected]. A name followed by a number at gmail. The posts are all have broken English. All the information of where they come from are each different but they do not seem to count on the statistics of visits to the site.

Is there a way to filter these posts?

And I guess I need to have thicker skin regards this stuff.

    Tony,

Make sure you have Akismet installed and activated.

Akismet is ok for humans but sucks at stopping ‘bots.

Wow! I wonder why there is such a difference in experiences? I’d, guestimate that Akismet misses less then 0.5% on my sites. So much so that I know when the Akismet servers are down because of the sudden increase in “comments to moderate”. I’m really wary of Bad Behaviour because I’ve seen it cause so many other problems.

agre -I don’t recommend it except in case of an onslaught I’ve used it since it’s inception, though, and am familiar with it’s quirjs.

To reinforce my thoughts on akismet and bots – in the wee hours this past weekend, I cleared the spam queue here of over 750 spam posts about the football games posted seconds apart.

Thanks guys! I activated Akismet (which was just sitting there in my list of plug-ins)

I did this just before I got your helpful post Samuel and as it seems to have stopped the posts I am going to leave it as it is for now.

I can’t believe I was mug enough to think they were real people finding my blog and liking it so much! I assume these people want my approval to post so they can later spam the hell out of me.

    Best
