Spam & Missing plugin

  • I had Akismet when I created my site. When I started getting a lot of spam comments, I also installed WordFence. Suddenly, Akismet is missing from my plugins list and I’m getting more spam than ever. I tried to re-install it, but I got a notice saying that it was impossible since a “folder” already exists for it. If the missing Akismet has nothing to do with the ~30 spam messages I get, what else can be done?

    I can never find an answer in this vast forum. Can anyone help with both issues? Also, I don’t know if it has anything to do with spam, but I’m using the Amadeus theme.

    That can happen when an update is not completed. I ran into this issue from time to time with a form plugin. Strangest thing ever.

    What you can do is manually update it by using an S/FTP program to upload the plugin files.

    You can also delete the old Akismet directory via FTP or the hosting Control Panel’s file manager and then reinstall from the dashboard.

    Is there anything that can be done without using FTP? I feel like with the money we pay for WordPress, this shouldn’t even be an issue and I shouldn’t have to handle them myself. Does anyone from WordPress ever check these questions?

    If you are referring to these forums, they are all volunteer.

    I appreciate the volunteers and your suggestions, but they weren’t working. I did finally get my host to help me.
