• Hi guys,
I have a number of spam comments being left in my website’s dashboard. The comments aren’t visible on the site but are visible to me obviously.
I used to be able to just mark them as spam and they would disappear. Recently there were a large number of such comments left and I can’t do anything to remove them – every time I try the comments page freezes. Any thoughts??!

    Do you have Akismet installed?

If you do, there is an option for it to automatically delete the really spammy comments. That might help in the future.

If you have access to phpMyAdmin and know what your doing, you could delete the comments that way.

    Thanks for this.

I don’t have Akismet, have heard about it though. Do you think I should download it and then try? Not entirely sure how that works?

It’s usually included in the install of WordPress, in which case you would only need to activate it. If you don’t see it in your plugins, then go ahead and download and install it.

You’ll need a WordPress API to install it but that’s easy to get.

If you have comments open, I wouldn’t run a WordPress website without Akismet. It can be configured to just delete the really bad spam so you never even have to deal with it. With Akismet installed, the comments you report as spam also get reported to Akisment which makes it more powerful in the future.
