Hello all, long time no talkie talkie.

I’m soliciting feedback on a proposed plugin to Spam Karma 2 that would basically utilize SK2’s blacklist to block comment spammers at the Apache level using mod_security. I’ve asked DrDave’s opinion and now I’m asking the rest of the WP community their thoughts.

I’ve just gotten sick of expending resources — both my personal ones and server resources — on spammers and if I can hit them earlier in the process (e.g. at the request level rather than at the WP level) then I’m happier.

Details here. All comments encouraged. Thanks in advance.

    Interesting idea …

As I said in my comment on your blog entry, my only concern would be the need for the .htaccess to be writable. I suppose that could be gotten around though with the proper scripting that chmods, writes to the file, then chmods back.. a daily cronjob perhaps.
