• In spite of having Akismet and Spam Karma 2 (which I’ve just removed), I keep getting aleast 30 to 40 spam comments. I’m really tired of deleting spam every day. 30 times each day.

In my WP 2.1 admin section I even went and unchecked “Allow Notifications” box (under Options->Discussions)… no result… the minimum 30 spam comments/trackbacks keep coming in.

Is there any way (I know if there was a way we all at WP would have known about it)… or any idea someone can help me with and make my life less stressful.

    1. I want to block all trackbacks once and for all.
    2. I would like users to use an “image” verification in the comments before they press the submit comments button.
    3. Any more ideas any gurus here may have.

    Would appreciate any help… thanks.

Install Bad Behavior. It’ll make about 80-90% of the incoming spam instantly disappear. It also reduces the load on your site that results from spambots.

Akismet will generally catch the rest of the spam that does make it through. Maybe 1 or 2 spams make it onto my site per month.

    As to your ideas:
    1. Turning off useful functionality is not a solution. It means that the spammers win. Don’t give up, fight the good fight!

    2. Captchas don’t work. They make people tend to not comment, and they don’t much impact spammers.

    Bad Behavior is here: https://www.homelandstupidity.us/software/bad-behavior

And it really does work. Use it with Akismet or Spam Karma and it is a good, good solution to the problem.

Thanks Otto… will try it out…

Is there a image verification plugin for comments?

There are such plugins, but a) they don’t block spam, and b) they do block people.

Don’t resort to a captcha. Really. They’re worse than worthless.

Manny thanks for the link to bad-behavior =D

With all due respect, some of us deal with an average of 1.6 million a day blocked at the router. (I do webhosting with 44 servers) Consider yourself lucky. ??
