  • It would be nice indeed if this plugin could implement a honeypot (cf. https://squiid.tumblr.com/post/6176439747/honeypot-protecting-web-forms) to avoid spam engines.

    Hey Serge and frenchalumni,

Are you guys using Akismet? I am currently aware of this problem since more users e-mailed me with the same problem and of course this is a deal breaker. I’m looking into it as soon as I can.

    Thanks.

    Danny

This would be great as we are also having this issue. The ‘captcha’ plugins available don’t seem to work with this plugin so not sure how to stop these spam signups.

    Hey guys,

As soon as I am granted access to the WP plugin repository for my newest plugin called “MailChimp for WP” you can start using that plugin (while simultaneously running Newsletter Sign-Up) to take care of the comment form checkbox. The new plugin ignores spam comments. I will later implement this in Newsletter Sign-Up as well but haven’t found the time for it yet.

In the future this new plugin will be expanded so that it can totally replace Newsletter Sign-Up for MailChimp users.

I expect the plugin to be downloadable in a few days, at most. I’ll let you know! Thanks for your patience. : )

Sound great! Happy to hear you take the development to the next level :-).

    Hey all,

MailChimp for WordPress is now available for download in the WordPress plugin repository. Check it out and let me know what you think.

The form widget functionality will be included really soon.

    Thanks for your patience.

Hey all. This plugin looks like a great find, but I am unclear as to whether any ant-spam features were ever added. Does MailChimp for WordPress include anti-spam features? What sort? Thanks!

    Hi Justin,

Yes, Mailchimp for WordPress includes the anti-comment spam measure as well as various other form protections.

Give it a try, you will love it.

PS. More detailed: Akismet integration, default WP spam protection integration, CSRF protection, Honeypot.

    Hi Danny,

I use your plugin (v 1.5.1) with latest wordpress 3.8.1 and I’m receiving spam in mail chimp list. I get one or two a day spam subscriptions . Maybe the spam protection is only in pro version?

Please let me know if I need to configure something or it should work it-of-the box

    Best

    Hi Carlos,

Are you using double opt-in? If using double opt-in, you shouldn’t get any spam subscriptions. I’m working on adding captcha possibilities for people who really want double opt-in disabled for their sign-up forms.

PS. Do you happen to know if those subscribers are coming from your comment form or from a sign-up form?

    Hi Danny,

when I installed the plugin I put double opt-in to false. And as soon as I started getting spam I turn on. So I’m using double opt-in.

I’d like not to have captcha for this kind of form, and honeypot should work (I have it in other forms and it works pretty well)

The spam is coming from a widget in the sidebar

    Thanks Danny

Hi! Thanks for making this great plugin.

Like Carlos, I’ve enabled double opt-in, but I’m still getting a lot of spam from my list sign-up form.

I can tell they’re spam because they’re coming in with blank values for the First Name and Group fields (and they’re also really “spammy” email addresses with zero opens or click-throughs when I email them)

I’ve got your checkbox enabled on my comment form and that seems to be excluding spam comments (via Akismet), but for my newsletter list signup form (in sidebar widget), I’m getting 5-6 spam emails a day. I guess they’re confirming their subscriptions in the double opt-in emails through some kind of Bot or something?

Is there any way to add a honeypot to the form? I would upgrade to the Pro version to get this feature.

    Thanks in advance ??
