Recently my server has been used to send spam emails, on average about two per day. Weirdly (and thankfully) they have only gone to my own email and my generic “hello@” email.

I use WPForms for the contact form on my site, but I don’t think the spam emails have come through that because they’re not formatted like that. The contact form has a bunch of required fields, but the spam emails are just plain text.

There’s no other evidence that the site has been hacked in any way. I’ve taken precautions e.g. changed passwords and secret keys, and scanned for malware using WordFence.

Any help would be gratefully received!

    Thanks,
    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

I apologize for any confusion. WP Mail SMTP does not have any way to send spam emails. It only reconfigures WordPress to use proper SMTP provider when other plugins or codes sends the email. Please check the contents of the email and other formattings or template and find the plugin sending the email.

    Thanks!
