Spam Comments…How can I stop them?

I get about 30 emails a day sometimes more of spam comments, my wordpress admin site have over 1000 spam comments that I’m yet to find the time to delete them. How can I stop this? It’s really annoying to get all those emails saying I have a comment and when I read it, it’s a spam!
